The reserve is a small, species-rich haven of ancient, semi natural woodland along the line of the Honeycrook Burn. Each spring the woodland floor becomes a carpet of bluebells. Ash and oak are present along with smaller trees such as willow, hazel, bird cherry and guelder rose. Tawny and barn owls are regulars while redstart and pied flycatcher breed here during the summer. Red squirrels and roe deer have been recorded.
