Eshiels Community Woodland was felled in 2006 to make way for access to the local recycling centre, but has since been replanted by the First Tweeddale Peebles Scouts and other volunteers. The 11 Scouts and three leaders planted 600 native trees and protected them with plastic tubes, while local residents reached a tally of 300. The replanting has been using native tree species which have a far greater biodiversity value than the exotic conifer woodland that was there originally.
