£60,000

per year

This is what's needed to sustain Mourne Park and protect it for future generations.

In 2021, we proudly acquired 156 hectares of Mourne Park, and we recently expanded the site by an additional 46 hectares. This sweeping woodland refuge near Kilkeel in County Down is now open to the public and, like all our woods, completely free to visit, inviting people of all ages to experience its beauty.

Northern Ireland remains one of the least-wooded regions in Europe, with a meagre 8.7% woodland cover. Our ancient woodlands are even rarer, representing only 0.04% of the landscape. For the first time, Mourne Park’s trails, riverside walks, and iconic wildlife – such as otters, pine martens, and red squirrels – are accessible to everyone.

With your help, we can keep Mourne Park open and flourishing

By supporting our Mourne Park appeal, you’ll fund the ongoing care and restoration of this cherished woodland. With your help, we’ll manage the land to benefit both wildlife and visitors. Looking after a special place like Mourne Park is a big responsibility, and we’re fundraising to make sure we can keep it in the best possible condition.

We'll nurture thousands of native trees

Our team is dedicated to nurturing and protecting the new trees we’ve planted, which will buffer Mourne Park’s ancient woodland, expand wildlife habitats and safeguard the fragile ecosystem.

We'll protect and restore rare habitats

To support healthy woodland regeneration, we need to keep up our work controlling invasive species like laurel and rhododendron. This essential restoration helps native trees and plants flourish, creating a richer habitat for wildlife.

We'll sustain vital corridors for wildlife

The hedgerows of Mourne Park are crucial for biodiversity. Our work will ensure these corridors continue to connect the habitats of red squirrels, pine marten and countless other species that rely on them.

We'll maintain trails and open spaces for all

Your contributions support trail upkeep and accessibility improvements, allowing families, hikers and nature lovers to enjoy this incredible landscape safely and sustainably. We’re also engaging with volunteers and the local community to see what Mourne Park needs most, while connecting people with nature.
