Why access to trees matters
Exercise. Oxygen. Therapy. Shade. We all need trees, but millions of people are living without them.
Our Tree Equity Score UK tool has revealed that, per person, the least deprived urban neighbourhoods have more than double the tree cover of the most deprived. This injustice means that tree-poor neighbourhoods have less access to the vital benefits that trees provide, including:
- lower stress levels
- enriched mental health
- protection against the effects of climate change
- reduced air pollution
- reduced noise pollution
- vital shade during heatwaves.
Nobody should be missing out on the health benefits of trees purely because of where they live. So, we're working tirelessly alongside passionate communities to improve urban tree cover – protecting important trees, restoring green space and getting more trees in the ground.
