The Greensand Trust and Central Bedfordshire Council purchased Rushmere Park in September 2009, creating a joint landholding of 210 hectares when combined with the existing Stockgrove Country Park and Oak Wood. Rushmere is situated at the western tip of the Greensand Ridge, an elevated feature that runs across Central Bedfordshire and is recognised as an area of high landscape value. The overall vision is to create an attractive and accessible public open space, zoned in a manner that enables a wide range of leisure and countryside activities, whilst protecting and enhancing sensitive natural and historic environmental areas and features and making the most of this unique landscape The main car park is at Rushmere where there is a visitors' centre with toilets, restaurant, a picnic area and lots of paths to explore. There is also a small cafe at the Stockgrove entrance but parking here is limited. Events are run throughout the year and educational group visits can be arranged.
