Lenzie Moss North and South
EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL WOOD
Lenzie Moss South - Narrow strips of birch woodland on relatively drier ground at the edge of a large wetland site. The main part of the woodland is on a narrow ridge between the railway and the edge of the wetland. This woodland is almost pure semi-mature and mature birch, with occasional other species. Trees along the railway edge overhang the railway fence. The remainder of the woodland consists of narrow strips of semi-mature trees (mostly birch) along the sides of drains. At woodland edges birch seedlings and saplings are colonising the adjacent bog and area of wet grassland. Surfaced and unsurfaced paths pass through the woodland.
Lenzie Moss North - Birch woodland at the edge of a large wetland habitat. Approximately 50% of the woodland area is established woodland on relatively dry ground. This area is dominated by birch but also includes mature oak, and beech at the edge. Self-sown beech, rowan and occasional oak saplings occur under the birch canopy. The remainder of the woodland area consists of young and semi-mature birch and willow. which have recently colonised wetter ground. Within this younger woodland area there is some open wetland and scrub. Self sown birch is rapidly colonising the adjacent wetland habitat.
