This Forestry Commission wood is ancient deciduous woodland planted up with conifers which are now being removed. It has wide rides which are good for flowers: oxlips and wood anemones in March/April and later on many orchids. The wood is a good place to see deer: both the native red deer and roe deer, and the introduced fallow and muntjac.
