The beautiful and atmospheric Dalavil Wood (Coille Dalavil) lies along the northern shore of Loch a' Glinne within Gleann Meadhonach. Dalavil Wood is a glorious mix of many of the Highlands native tree species - pine, oak, rowan, birch and holly, as well as beech and elm. The wood and loch are together a Site of Special Scientific Interest, deer fenced in 1994 to protect the ancient woodlands, peatland, dragonflies and lichen. The loch is thickly fringed with reeds, and in summer huge rafts of water-lilies float choke much of the surface. The loch is home to many species of duck, water-fowl and swans including rare whooper swans.
