Castle O'er is a large forest spreading across 8 or so miles of uplands. Mostly first planted in the late 1960's, areas have since been felled and re-planted, some with conifer and some broadleaf trees. A pre-historic trail with many information points are in the forest area. Included are an Iron Age fort, ancient farmsteads and stone circles. The Black Esk Reservoir is part of this forest. There are many access/parking points. There are excellent views across the Esk Valley and beyond.
