The northern part of the wood is classified as ancient woodland of semi-natural origin. There are 2 access points, both steep but with good paths. A varied habitat that provides a home for many migrant bird species. In combination with a visit to Cessnock Wood and Threepwood farm, there is a great trilogy of contrasting woodland visits.
