Find out moreLearn how to identify and survey ancient, veteran and notable trees on a practical workshop in the Faughan Valley Woodlands.
Faughan Valley Woodlands, Killaloo
Join us for a unique day of learning as we study and explore our largest, oldest and most interesting trees.
Ancient trees are as much a part of our heritage as stately homes, cathedrals and works of art. But they currently don’t get the same protection.
Identifying where ancient trees are takes us one step closer to giving them the care and protection they need. That’s where you come in. Your records of these oldest and most characterful trees help us to identify ancient tree hot spots, monitor current threats and future losses, and plan how best to conserve them in the future.
During this workshop we'll learn how to identify the characteristics of ancient, veteran and notable trees, how to record them on our Ancient Tree Inventory and why they're so important. The day will be split between an informative indoor session in the morning, followed by an afternoon of putting our new skills into practice in the Faughan Valley Woodlands.
This is a free event but booking in advance is essential. To book or find out more information, please email robertwatson@woodlandtrust.org.uk.
If possible, please also pre-register for our Ancient Tree Inventory prior to the workshop on our Ancient Tree Inventory website.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Good waterproofs, walking boots and sun cream are advised.
There will be a lunch break between the morning and afternoon sessions. Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available but please bring your own packed lunch.
