As patron of the Woodland Trust, I’m incredibly proud to have played even a small part in its work. The Trust has achieved so much during the past 50 years - from a small wood in Devon, to thousands of hectares of life-giving woodland across the UK. But we’re not stopping there. The world is in the grip of a climate and nature crisis and the woods, trees and wildlife we’ve always championed now need our help more than ever before. We'll work tirelessly to revive and protect rare habitats like our Langley Vale site in Surrey which is now a haven for birds and butterflies. We have maintained chalkland and have sown plants that encourage the small blue butterfly and other rare chalk specialists.

We’ll continue to work with partners to reintroduce species such as the pine marten - once one of our most common carnivores - into ancient woods. These days their numbers are pitifully low, but thanks to passion and expertise they’re beginning to come back from the brink.

We're bringing the magic of the majestic Loch Arkaig ospreys into people's homes each summer with our nest cam. It reveals precious insights about life on the nest against the backdrop of the rare Caledonian pinewood that we are nurturing back to health.

Thousands of young people come along to our community planting days to show a commitment to a greener world. This passion is especially evident at the nation's only Young People's Forest in Derbyshire. Children, young people and the local community have come together to shape the wood’s future. And we want to continue creating woods like these.
Our army of magnificent supporters have so far been with us every step of the way helping us make a difference. We’re in this together and we need your support again now to take the fight to a level we could never have imagined 50 years ago.
