Getting started

All fields are required unless indicated as optional.

Applications are now being taken for planting trees between November 2026 and March 2027.

Thinking about planting trees but not sure where to start? Designed for first-time planters as well as those testing new ideas, our complimentary trial packs make it easy to begin. Whether you’re adding trees to field corners, planting along rivers, or creating new habitats on less-productive land, these packs are a simple, low-commitment way to boost biodiversity and resilience on your land.

You may choose up to 3 packs, each pack contains 50 trees per pack, which will mean a maximum of 150 trees. The six pack types are:

  1. ‎Wild Wood – Tough trees for exposed hills and moors, offering shelter, protection from extreme weather, and nitrogen capture.
  2. Harvest Pack – Biodiversity-friendly species suitable for upland areas, with harvest-friendly species.
  3. Wet Woods Pack – Trees suited to wet flushes, slopes, and streams, supporting nitrogen capture and carbon sink.
  4. Resilience Pack – Ideal for wilder, woodier landscapes on poor lowland soils.
  5. Broadleaf Pack – A rich mix of trees with fruit, flowers, and foliage for fertile ground.
  6. Wet Roots Pack – Native trees that thrive in flood-prone or waterlogged lowland areas.

Please note that land entered into our schemes may affect eligibility for direct agricultural land payments, Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), and some other grants, depending on the scheme and how the land is used. If this could be a concern for you, we recommend seeking advice before progressing your application. To find out more, or to discuss how planting trees could help offset changes to farm support income, please call 0330 333 5303.

We will share your details with our nursery partners, couriers, sponsors and any other third parties involved directly in the funding or delivery of your Woodland Trust trees.

Applicants for our trial packs are for Great Britain only; we are currently unable to supply these packs to Northern Ireland. Applications can be from both members and non-members of the Woodland Trust. The following information is required before you can start your application.

Condition of planning permission
While we cannot supply trees for planting as a condition of planning permission, we may be able to offer advice. Please contact us for help or to discuss applications which go beyond the planning stipulations.
