Eardley Road Sidings
LONDON BOROUGH OF LAMBETH WOOD
Eardley Road Sidings is a small and totally enclosed wood, mainly composed of ash, birch and oak trees - and there are many birds and butterflies that have been recorded here.
It was originally part of an extensive area of railway sidings and marshalling yards which stretched for over 10 hectares alongside the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. Once these were abandoned, much of the sidings were redeveloped for roads and housing, but a remnant was secured for creating a new local nature reserve.
Eardley Road Sidings is a new Local Nature Reserve (LNR) for Lambeth, declared in 2022, in recognition of its importance for biodiversity but also people's access to and enjoyment of nature on their doorstep.
