The wood lies on the northwest side of the hills above the Moffat Water. There are a number of habitats in this wood and it is well worth the visit. As you climb up the waymarked trail the views open up, the woodland changes too to a more open space with some young broadleaved trees. Benches up the hill allow walkers an excuse to sit and enjoy the open views across Annandale. There are red squirrels and deer, as well as plenty of bird life. The paths vary from rough tracks to grass paths.
