Popular locally, this mixed woodland runs along Westertons' spine. Part of an important Glasgow wildlife corridor. See oak, beech and sweet chestnut. Ongoing improvements by East Dun. Council with Cairnhill Woods Group. Long, narrow strip of woodland on ridge, surrounded by housing. Much of the woodland (including the west edge and south end) is an irregular mixture of mature trees, semi-mature trees, natural regeneration, shrubs and small clearings. The mature trees are mostly beech and sycamore, with some oak and occasional sweet chestnut. At the east side of the woodland strip is a dense stand of almost pure semi-mature sycamore. Towards the north ends of the site there a variety of stands and habitats: an old wayleave with colonising birch; amenity grassland with scattered trees; open ground; a dense, semi-mature stand with mixed conifers and broadleaved trees. Near the south end of the site is an open area with bracken, scattered self-sown shrubs and young planted trees. Rhododendron and occasional laurel form dense thickets in places.
