This semi-natural ancient woodland is composed mainly of beech trees, planted for the furniture industry, but includes stands of oak, aspen, ash, yew, Douglas fir, Scots pine, silver birch, heath, gorse and a pond. This diversity offers a home for owls, woodpeckers, willow-warblers, chiffchaffs, badgers, wood mice and roe deer. Brimstone and red admiral butterflies and elephant hawk-moths have been seen. Bluebells appear in spring and fungi in autumn. Access via car park in Common Wood Lane.
