Explore the site and find out how the Woodland Trust has transformed a patch of arable land into a haven for wildlife and people, and created a living memorial to those who gave their lives in the First World War.

Don't forget

There are no toilet facilities onsite. The nearest public toilets are on Woodfield Lane in Ashtead (KT21 1AT).

Please dress appropriately for the weather, including sturdy footwear, suncream and water if needed.

If the weather is severe, the walk will be cancelled, so please check your emails the day before the walk.

Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues (for example, asthma, diabetes, or other conditions) before the start of the walk.

This event is suitable for children aged 8+.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.

  • Access: this walk will take place on a range of terrain, from footpaths to uneven ground with some inclines. It will also pass through gated areas. This means that, unfortunately, the route isn't suitable for prams or people with mobility issues.

  • Parking: available at Langley Vale Wood car park, Ashtead, Epsom, KT18 6BZ. There's a surfaced car park with more than 70 spaces, including disabled parking and RolecEV charging for electric vehicles.

    There is a charge to use the car park, with all funds going back into the maintenance of Langley Vale Wood:

    Four hours: £4
    All day: £5

    The event is 2 hours 30 minutes long, so you'll need to allocate four hours when paying for parking, to allow time for your arrival and departure.

    You can pay at the onsite payment machines using a contactless card, or go through the RingGo app. Please note: the machines don't take cash.

  • Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but please ensure they are kept on their leads throughout the event.

How to get there

By car: from M25 junction 8 (north or southbound), take the A217 exit to Reigate. Continue on the A217 Brighton Road and follow the signs for Epsom Racecourse.

Follow the B290 in Epsom and turn left onto Langley Vale Road. Continue onto Downs Road and turn left onto Headley Road. The Langley Vale Wood car park entrance will be on your left. 

By train or bus: the nearest train station is two miles away in Ashtead. Regular bus services run from Epsom and stop at Downs Road on Headley Road, and Grosvenor Road in Langley Vale village.
