Whitehill Woods East & West, Bearsden
EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL WOOD
Whitehill East - Small block broadleaved woodland, with an irregular mixture of mature trees, semi mature trees, natural regeneration, shrubs and small clearings. At the west end of the woodland, mature trees include beech, sycamore, ash and oak. At the the east end of the woodland, most of the mature trees are sycamore. A well developed understorey includes natural regeneration of beech, rowan, ash, sycamore and hawthorn.
Whitehill West - Small block of broadleaved woodland with an irregular mixture of mature trees, semi mature trees, natural regeneration, shrubs and small clearings. The mature trees are mostly beech and sycamore with occasional oak. Small stands of semi-mature birch and sycamore occur between groups of mature trees. The understorey includes beech regeneration and holly. Birch regeneration occurs in canopy gaps. Occasional young planted trees include Norway maple, horse chestnut, field maple, gean, ash and oak.
