Grange Villa Alma Pit Reclamation
JOHN BRAGG WOOD
On the site of workings south of Alma pit at Grange Villa, there is now a thriving natural woodland with many deciduous trees and some pinewoods. This wood has paths from the Grange Villa south layby and is an haven for wildlife as it follows the Twizell Burn going west. The woods near to the village have been felled by storm Arwen and yet are regrwoing with native trees notably cherry and oaks. The large 50ft cascade near to the road is worth seeing .
