Speaker 1: My name's Anna Fedeczko, I'm chair of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Great Britain. And we’re here today at our centre in Weston on Trent, that we call 'Tarasivka'. It's an estate that we acquired in 1964 and have been developing for our youth ever since. But it’s also a centre where all Ukrainians in Great Britain can come together. This year we had to fell trees and there’s patches in the woods that we need to replant. One of my colleagues came across the offer from the Woodland Trust for trees for schools and communities. We established that we were eligible and we thought this is fantastic because it can involve young and old. And it can carry on and we can do lots of things around this theme. Not just sustainability but preserving the land, nature, it’s just a fantastic thing.
Speaker 2: Thank you very much indeed to the Woodland Trust, who have donated over 420 trees to enable us to plant these saplings so that next generation can see them grow along with their children and for the future of the Ukrainian youth here in the United Kingdom.
Speaker 3: When I'm older and when I'm like helping all the kids that come here when they’re my age and they'll all be growing up - yeah it will be exciting to see because all the trees down there were all planted at the start and look how tall they are. So it’s like I'm growing with these trees.
Speaker 4: As an organisation we have a patron saint which is Saint Michael. And for Saint Michael’s Day we usually do good deeds. So, my idea was to do boxes for soldiers in Ukraine. It’s helped us because it brought people together. We wouldn't normally have an event in November so it’s been lovely that people have come together to help plant the trees. And also helping support the ecology of Tarasivka. Planting these trees is going to bring back more shade, cover for children in the future years to come and use this place. But also to have new life growing in Tarasivka is also very nice to see as well.
