Barlow Wood is a broadleaved woodland on a steep river valley slope. Woodland species indicate that parts of the area can be classed as Ancient Woodland. Public rights of way cross the wood although these paths are very steep and care needs to be taken. The main path crosses the river Goyt providing excellent views of the river. Access to the woodland is limited to these paths as the site contains sensitive plant communities.
