Translocation And Ancient Woodland

Learn what translocation is and why ancient woodland can't be translocated...

Translocation is not an appropriate alternative to conservation of ancient woodland in situ. There is no evidence that stable climax communities, such as ancient woodland, can be recreated though habitat translocation. Our report assesses the evidence in relation to translocation as a measure in proposals that impact on ancient woodland.

This report is in the process of being updated. Please refer to the Woodland Trust's position statement on ancient woodland and translocation. For any enquires about this publication please contact campaigning@woodlandtrust.org.uk
