Dating back to the original wildwood or to Neolithic livestock keepers, wood pasture can be found in many European countries. Its key features are ancient and veteran trees, grazing animals, microhabitats (including rot holes and fallen trees), open ground vegetation and continuity of trees and management. There is an increased interest in the restoration and creation of wood pasture sites, and the winter 2012 issue of Wood Wise looks at some of these projects.
