Publication date 2012
Publication type Journal (Wood Wise)

For millennia the structure of woods has been influenced by grazers..

Firstly by wild animals including deer and boar, and later by domesticated livestock like sheep and cattle. The open conditions they create are essential for some wildlife. However, in modern times some woods have become overgrown and neglected through lack of grazing; negatively impacting on wildflowers and butterflies. Read our autumn 2012 issue of Wood Wise to find out why conservation grazing is important, the various impacts different grazers have and case studies from a selection of projects.
