Bwlchgwyn (well served by bus) is Wales' highest village. Bwlch Gwyn Forest on the edge of the village is easily visited as part of a circular walk (approx 8km) taking in the Nant-y-Ffrith Estate, Ffrith and Glascoed. This mixed woodland includes red oak, copper beech and conifers. The area is a good one for bat watching. Several different species can be seen around the broadleaved trees around dusk. There's a waterfall at Nant-Y-Ffrith and good views from Pen-Llun-Y-Gwr.
