Mixed native woodland and ancient trees along with abundant floral species like bluebell, meadowsweet and dog violet allow a pleasant circular walk to be taken although paths are often wet. Dormice have been recorded at this site.

Please note that, unfortunately, the pathway has had to be restricted and is no longer a circular route (it only extends along the meadow edge) due to safety reasons.

With extensive ash dieback within the woodland the decision has been made to let the canopy alter itself over time. These woods hold such ecological importance any safety works would be too damaging. The whole site is part of the Coed Gwempa SSSI, forming sizeable lowland woodland on fertile base-rich soils - a rare woodland type in Wales. As a result, there is no plan to re-open the path in the near future.

Some alternative woodlands that we look after that are close by which you may wish to explore are Green Castle Woods, Coed Ystrad and Coed Ffos Las.
