On a clear day there are wonderful views of east Hampshire and southwest Surrey from the top of the hill. There is a mixture of woodland, open glades and heathland although many of the trees are relatively young. The hill was mentioned in a Sherlock Holmes short story, "The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist". There are earthworks on the flank of the hill one of which is called Soldier's Ring.
