Grab a spade and help us plant the first of 150,000 trees at our newest community woodland Glas-na-Bradan Wood this autumn. We need energetic members of the public to sign up, come along and make their mark on the Belfast skyline. Bring your family and friends and get your hands dirty in the fight against climate change.

Don't forget

Please wrap up warm, wear stout footwear or wellies and bring a spade if you can as our supplies are limited. Be aware that Glas-na-Bradan Wood is hilly in places with uneven ground.

When and where

  • Date: There are several planting events taking place, on the following dates: Saturday 13 November, Saturday 20 November, Sunday 21 November and Saturday 4 December. The times available are: 10-11am, 11am-12pm, 12-1pm, 1-2pm.
  • Price: Free, but donations to support the management of our woodlands are welcome.
  • Location: Glas-na-Bradan Wood is located beside Cave Hill Country Park and above Belfast Zoo. The hill has the highest point in the Belfast Hills and those who reach the summit will be rewarded with sweeping panoramic views over Northern Ireland, from Slemish in the North to the Mournes in the South and from Lough Neagh to Strangford Lough on a clear day. From the hill there are views over Newtownabbey and Belfast city, providing view points photo opportunities of some of Belfast’s famous landmarks like Samson and Goliath, the Harland & Wolff cranes.
  • Dogs: Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome. We ask that you pick up any mess they leave and take it with you.
  • Access: Glas-na-Bradan Wood is hilly in places with uneven ground. Please note there are no toilets available on site.
  • Parking: Parking instructions/shuttle bus details will be emailed prior to the booked event.
