ACT NOW - Make Wales better with trees!
Wales needs a new Sustainable Land Use Policy.
The Common Agricultural Policy ends soon and we believe it should be replaced with a tailored Sustainable Land Use Policy for Wales.
We call on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to create a sustainable land use policy which promotes the value of trees and woods, positively encourages landowners and land managers to plant the right trees in the right places, and seeks to protect Wales’ existing trees and woods. This will help achieve the ambitions of the Well-being of Future Generations Act, and build a more resilient, more prosperous and healthier Wales.
Trees and woods can benefit Wales through:
- protecting soils and sheltering livestock;
- reducing flood risk;
- producing a sustainable supply of timber;
- supporting wildlife;
- valuing woodland heritage;
- enhancing and improving the landscape
Many thanks to everyone who supported our petition to the National Assembly to urge the Welsh Government to create a sustainable land use policy which promotes the value of trees and woods. The petition has now closed and will be formally presented to the Assembly’s Petitions Committee on 27 February. We will let you know how the Assembly responds to the petition when we know more.
