Ancient woodland saved from the M4

Wales’ First Minister has rejected plans that would wreck four areas of ancient woodland.

Plans for a new relief road around Newport heralded dark days for ancient woods, trees, nature and our future generations. The proposed route would have resulted in the damage and loss to a number of areas of ancient woodland, devastating wildlife and affecting local biodiversity.

But, citing the potential environmental damage of the plans, Wales’ First Minister has decided not to proceed with the new section of motorway.

This wouldn’t have been possible without the voices of thousands of people and a number of conservation organisations speaking up together to protect the environment. Thank you.

There are still hundreds of ancient woodlands under threat across the UK however. Find out how you can help.
