Comprising mainly mature mixed broadleaf woodland and boasting a rich ground flora. Eight main entrances and a network of linear surfaced footpaths link this site to the surrounding open space and public footpath network. Well used by local people. Masons Wood is one of our Top Ten bluebell woods. If you'd like to visit and see a superb bluebell display check our live map for bluebells at naturescalendar.org.uk as flowering times do vary around the UK. However mid-April to early-June is usually an ideal time for most woods.

So yeah we're in Masons Wood which is in Fulwood, which is a district of Preston. Mason's Wood is a lovely ancient semi-natural woodland. The woodland is in a very urban part of Preston and there's a big housing estate that borders a lot of the woodland. And we get hundreds of visitors a day really just coming in to walk their dogs or go for a walk themselves. So yeah really well-used and well-loved community woodland. So we've had some generous funding from Veolia Environmental Trust and that money has been vital to complete the work that we we've need to do, the culverts and the bridges that we've fitted. And also the slow the flow works that we've undertaken on the brook, that support has been vital. The bridges that we've replaced and the culverts that we've replaced that's really vital because that means we can access the wood with vehicles. So, we can undertake things like tree safety work in the future or path maintenance work in the future. A wood like this there is always maintenance work that you need to do. Some of the work that's been undertaken slow the flow work with the river ribble trust, that was undertaken with some local volunteers. And actually, I've had an enquiry about a volunteer group. So, hopefully in the future, we may be able to establish a volunteer group on-site at Mason's Wood, which would be great.
