Tree of the Year 2018 nominations

From the first tree you ever climbed, to the biggest tree you ever saw. Some trees are unforgettable – whether they are a landmark, teacher, or muse. But which tree is most special to you? Nominations are now open to find this year’s Tree of the Year.

Thanks to support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery, up to £1000 in tree care awards are available to the most successful trees in the competition to help them live long and healthy lives, for generations to come.

Nominate your Tree of the Year

Nominations are open to any living tree in the UK with a story to tell. Any individual, group or organisation can nominate a tree until 9 am on 6 August. The winning trees from previous years are excluded. You can view the previous winners by scrolling through the image gallery at the top of this page. (Note, there was no entry from Northern Ireland in 2014.)

An independent panel of experts in each of the four countries will choose a shortlist from the entries submitted and the winners will then be decided by public vote later in the year.

A bit of 'Tree LC'

Our tree care awards are intended to help protect, support and celebrate a healthy future for your special tree. They can be used to cover the cost of necessary management or to help prescribe a more prosperous life for a tree through:

• Tree surveys or professional management advice
• Tree work such as pruning, fencing, haloing, mulching for root protection and/or removal or management of competing vegetation
• Providing interpretive or educational materials, signage or digital information that helps to build support for your tree
• Enabling community engagement activities to help support and protect their tree.
