Llennyrch’s Celtic rainforest is now safe and under our care.
Thanks to an amazing response from our members and supporters, we have been able to secure the future of Llennyrch – an ancient land, shaped by man and owned by nature.
Hidden among the lush green hills of Snowdonia, at the bottom of a gorge so steep it may never be fully explored, is a strip of rare, ancient woodland.
This is Llennyrch –100 acres of magical, mysterious and incredibly scarce Celtic rainforest, surrounded by 400 acres of spectacular Welsh farmland.
What next for Llennyrch?
Our members and supporters felt so strongly that this special place must be protected, their response to our urgent appeal was unprecedented. Now Llennyrch is safe, the hard work to restore it can begin. Our priority is to protect and improve the land and the wildlife that live in these rare conditions. The hefted flock of sheep that have roamed the land for centuries will continue to graze there, and we’ll be creating new native woodland alongside the existing mosaic of woods, meadows, rich pasture and moorland.
We plan to carefully open up parts of the site so more people can enjoy and discover the secrets of the rainforest. We can’t do all this without continuing to raise money towards our project costs to sensitively manage and preserve Llennrych for the future.
