Exploring the UK, whether it be motorhoming, caravanning or camping, is a fantastic way to take in the natural beauty of our country – including a visit to our woods.

Our partnership with the NCC (National Caravan Council) – the body which represents the caravan and motorhome industry – centres around celebrating the great outdoors and all it has to offer through the ‘Freedom to Go’ campaign.

By nature, people who camp, caravan, or motorhome are outdoorsy folk who like to get out and explore and the partnership represents a great opportunity to inspire these intrepid travellers to explore our woods as part of their holiday adventures.

Our partnership with the NCC initially focused on two annual shows held at the NEC: the Motorhome & Caravan Show and the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome show. These shows are some of the biggest indoor events of the year, attracting almost 100,000 visitors each time.

For each show we bring the great outdoors indoors and transform a rest area where people can relax, enjoy and learn about woods and trees. With opportunities also to present on a theatre stand and much more besides, it allows us to engage with new audiences.

Alongside the shows, the NCC runs their national campaign Freedom To Go – the go to place to get inspired about the outdoors. Whether you're an intrepid explorer, an active adventurer or a laid back nature lover, Freedom To Go helps people to find the perfect escape. What better way to find freedom is there than getting out into our woods, whether it be trekking, cycling, running or dog walking?

From our beautiful 900 hectare site of Heartwood in Hertfordshire and Fingle Woods in the rolling Dartmoor hills of Devon, to Loch Arkaig - a wondrous wildlife haven in the north west of Scotland - our sites are diverse and widespread. They are great places to find tranquility, wildlife and nature on a getaway.

Jenny Summers, Group Marketing Director of the NCC said: “For us our partnership with the Woodland Trust is a natural fit. Taking a caravan or motorhome holiday or short break in the UK offers countless opportunities to explore and discover new places and woods are high on the list! Our ‘Freedom to Go’ campaign attracts families, dog owners, newly retired and those who enjoy an active style and with the help of the Woodland Trust we can help them to plan their holiday activities. “

More about the NCC

The Freedom to Go campaign (www.freedomtogo.co.uk) is an Industry-wide initiative, launched at the start of 2015 to help those who want to start caravanning and motorhoming.

The NCC was setup more than 75 years ago (1939) as the UK trade body representing the collective interests of the tourer, motorhome, caravan holiday home and park home sectors. Whilst the roots of the industry lie in the early half of the nineteenth century it has developed significantly and now makes a more than £6 billion per year contribution to the UK economy, employs in excess of 100,000 people and serves over 1.7 million caravanners and motorhomers.

Businesses can join the NCC as a Member. It represents some 800 member outlets, in manufacturing, park operations, distribution, retailing and in the provision of specialist supplies and services, within the UK caravan industry. Membership gives businesses a badge of consumer trust, reputability and sets them apart from the competition.
