Updated 31 March 2023.

We've made some changes to the way we provide Nature Detectives activities for children.

On 16 March 2020, the Nature Detectives website was taken offline. You'll now be signposted somewhere new, as explained below.

Activities for nature-loving kids

We believe it's vital for youngsters to experience and enjoy nature, so we share ideas to help families and teachers engage children. Whether it's through outdoor play, crafts, science experiments or wildlife spotting, our activities are a fantastic way to discover trees and wildlife right on your doorstep.

Educational resources

We know our activities are valued by teachers and other educators, so we’ve gathered together all our schools' resources and the most popular Nature Detectives activities in one place. You can now access these in Tree Tools for Schools, our free online learning hub.

By bringing everything together we hope to reach as many schools and young people as possible. And by helping teachers deliver engaging outdoor learning, we'll inspire the next generation to become guardians of trees and woods.

Teachers can also see our full school offer by visiting our schools' pages. Here you can learn more about our Green Tree Schools Award and our free tree packs for schools.

Join the Woodland Trust as a family

Families play an important role in nurturing children's enjoyment of the natural world. Whether it's weekend walks in the woods or climbing trees in your local park, time spent outdoors together is hugely beneficial.

We help families connect to nature with our family membership. When you join, your children will receive Nature Detectives activity packs in the post every season, bursting with wildlife facts, nature crafts and outdoor ideas. You'll also receive a guide to more than 1,000 woods across the UK to help you plan your adventures.

And at a time when our members' support is more important than ever, you can be proud your family is helping to protect our environment for future generations of wildlife and people.
