Harrogate relief road

Protect Bilton Beck and Nidd Gorge

North Yorkshire County Council has asked the local community to provide feedback on several proposals to reduce congestion around Harrogate and Knaresborough.

One such proposal is for a new relief road around the north to east side of Harrogate. This would see the loss of ancient woodland and part of the Trust’s Bilton Beck & Rudding Bottoms site, which forms part of the wider Nidd Gorge landscape.

The road will cut up and fragment wildlife habitats so this precious landscape will never be the same again. These woods are wonderful for wildlife, filter harmful pollutants and beautify the landscape. They should remain there to carry on.

The consultation is now closed. Thank you to everyone who took part in our campaign.

We are now waiting for North Yorkshire County Council to select which traffic calming measures will be taken forward from the study. We will keep you informed of the progress.
