Is there an industry standard?

For domestic carbon capture schemes, such as the Woodland Trust's Woodland Carbon, there is currently no definitive standard.

This is largely because UK-based forestry projects are not compliant with the conditions of the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism.

There is a strongly perceived need for a standard to cover UK-based carbon reduction and capture projects. The Woodland Trust is currently playing an active role in the development of such a standard as part of the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme (UKWAS).

The UKWAS is an extension of, and is certified by, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), whose global remit is a recognized guarantee of sustainable forestry practice.
