Deforestation and climate change

Forestry activities account for almost one fifth of annual global GHG emissions (Fig. 1). That's more than the entire transport sector: every 'plane, train and automobile.

Carbon emissions from the decay of woody material and other biomass account for more than a quarter of the annual atmospheric CO2 input (Fig. 2).

There is a major distinction to draw between fossil and non-fossil CO2.
