For the economy

Trees and woods also provide jobs and other economic benefits.

This may be in the form of timber for such things as fencing, fuel, building materials, paper etc, and non-timber products such as fungi or foliage; but also from recreation and tourism either directly as a result of activities in woods, or indirectly by providing a pleasant landscape for tourism businesses.

According to the Forestry Commission, in 1999-2000 annual forest related tourism expenditure in Britain was more than £2 billion.
