For recreation

Woods are ideal for recreational purposes because among the many benefits of woodland is that it can be many things to many people.

Within the same area of woodland, people may enjoy a tranquil walk, take their family to play games and explore the natural world, exercise or watch wildlife.

The trees shelter and absorb people, so that many more people can use an area of woodland without intruding on each other, than would be able to use a similarly sized area of open ground.

Group activities in the woods, whether it is a healthy walking group or a volunteer group carrying out woodland management tasks, can help to bring all members of the community together, helping those who feel isolated within the community to meet and engage with others, and allowing people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and learn about, enjoy and improve their environment.
