Our successes

The Woodland Trust's successes in protecting ancient woodland so far include:
  • The launch of our Northern Ireland Ancient Woodland Inventory for Northern Ireland Back on the Map in spring 2007.
  • The woods under threat team saving 24 woods in 2006 and by mid-2007 saving a further 16.
  • Ancient woodland being listed as an important habitat to be protected in Planning Policy Statement 9 - a government policy document that guides planners and developers on what they should and should not be doing.
  • Fantastic results from the gradual restoration of our own planted ancient woodland sites (PAWS) and spreading the message to help others restore theirs, such as through partnerships work in the Tamar Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Dartmoor National Park.
