Volunteer Activity Coordinators - Northern Ireland

The Woodland Trust in Northern Ireland was established in 1996 and since then has cared for over 793 acres of native woodlands. We now aim to create at least an additional 200 hectares for the benefit of communities, an array of wildlife species and the environment.

We are looking for 4 volunteers to promote and represent the Woodland Trust at various environmental fair events across NI.

Your roles will be to engage people and raise awareness about the work of the Woodland Trust. You will have opportunities to use your people skills and interests in participation and event activities.  Skills such as face painting, planting acorns, mask making and public interaction are welcomed.  You will work as part of a volunteer team attending around 5 events during the year.  Training and event equipment will be provided and you will have the support of our Events Officer.

Key Duties

- First and foremost - enjoy yourself!
- Attend the event as prescribed above
- Set up display boards and information stand and gazebo as required
- Provide information and answer public queries
- Distribute promotional materials
- Engage and interact with public to represent the Woodland Trust
- Engage with children (accompanied by adults) and help complete arts and crafts activities if necessary

Timescale and Location

We are currently compiling a list of annual recurring events but the majority of regular events will be at IKEA Belfast during school holidays and bank holiday weeks.   

Your training will commence around the end of September 2011.

Generally the busiest time is April/May/June and again in September/October. Please note that most events take place on Saturdays.

Experience and Qualities Required

- Event experience preferred but not essential
- Experience working with children (accompanied by adults)     - Arts & Craft and activity skills are desirable
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to travel to events
- Fairly fit and able to erect gazebo and display boards
- Ability to talk enthusiastically to the general public and answer questions about the Woodland Trust
- Access to transport that can hold event equipment
