The Task
We are looking for volunteers based in Derbyshire with strong communication and creative writing skills to support our PR team in promoting and raising awareness of the Woodland Trust’s activities.
Your role would involve liaising with local staff, writing press releases and letters, and liaising electronically or by telephone with local press and media networks to inspire publication.
Timescale
Ideally we would like at least a year of your time, and you would be expected to contribute at least 1 hour per week, but more time may be required depending on the Trust’s current activities and priorities and your location and availability.
Experience Required/Desired
– Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
– Good IT and telephone skills
– A background in local media, press or public relations
– A knowledge of the Woodland Trust and its work
Qualities Required
– The ability to proactively communicate and maintain relationships with local media contacts
– Able to write fluent and concise news releases
– Comfortable communication with a wide variety of people
– An ability to attend training, travel to meetings in potentially isolated locations
Key Duties
– Attend initial training prior to becoming an active ‘media volunteer’
– Take part in induction and ongoing updates with your task manager to review progress and opportunities
– Create clear and concise news releases for local and regional print, radio and TV to promote the Trusts local activities in an agreed geographical area
– Promote, publicise and raise awareness of the Trusts local activities
– Develop good contacts with local and regional media
– Ensure all releases, communications and meetings are signed off by your task manager
– Maintain knowledge and understanding of current Woodland Trust activity
Expenses
These can be paid for authorised expenditure (receipts required), on phone calls, postage or photocopying up to a maximum of £5 per quarter/month.
Any amounts in excess of this or for other items should be agreed with your task manager prior to expenditure. Task related travel costs will be reimbursed at our standard mileage rate or the full cost of public transport.
