Hackfall Intrepid Explorers

Join us on a magical tour of inspiration and adventure around Hackfall, as part of National Family Week.

Take part in woodland Nature Detective's activities on this fun guided 2-3 mile activity walk.

The paths are steep in places and can be very muddy/slippery. Dogs are welcome.

Wood Stacked up

Cleft Oak Hurdles and Gates,

Brantwood, Cumbria,

16th - 17th June

9.30am - 5pm

Hurdles and Gates with Owen Jones - An opportunity to make small border hurdles and large gate hurdles or garden gates which can be to the participants design and dimensions. No previous experience of green woodworking is necessary. Starting with oak logs in the round, you will learn the basic techniques of splitting and cleaving using axes, wedges and froes. Techniques are taught to shape the clefts with a draw knife and how to use simple mortice and tenon joints. Only hand tools will be used.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Join Paul Mosley the Hackfall Office and Graham Wilson the Water Feature Designer for an evening walk of discovery. Learn all about the ponds, waterfalls, cascades and the fountain at Hackfall.

RSPB - Art Walk - Dove Stone Reservoir
Greenfield, Greater Manchester

26th June 2012 - 10.30am to 1pm.

Create beautiful and intricate artworks using simple and accessible printing techniques, guided by artists Jacqui Symons and Richard Dawson.

The art walk will explore Dove Stone’s broadleaf woods where we will be looking at the different ways of identifying trees and collecting materials with which to create your own leaf print art book to take home.

The walk will continue around the main trail to Ashway Gap where we will be making prints from the materials we have gathered. There’s also the chance to find out more about the woodland restoration work being undertaken by the RSPB at Dove Stone.

All materials will be provided. Although we will be printing under cover we recommend warm, waterproof clothes !

The post code is OL3 7NE and toilets are available at Dove Stone's main carpark and at Binn Green carpark.

Dove Stone's nearest train station is Greenfield.  From there it's about a 30 minute walk.

Oak Tree

Aislabie Walk, North Yorkshire

9am - 5pm

Join Paul Mosley the Hackfall Officer and Sally Childes a AONB Heritage Officer for a 12 mile circular walk. We will be travelling along part of the 'Aislabie Walk' which links the designated landscapes at Studley Royal and Hackfall. Starting from an ending at Studley. The walk will take in some fascinating heritage sites.

You will need a packed lunch or money for a pub lunch at the Galphay Inn.
