Did you know...

Ancient woodland is our richest wildlife habitat and is scarce, covering less than 2% of the UK’s land area. The need to protect what is left is paramount - unless urgent action is taken now, vast areas of what little ancient woodland remains are in danger of losing their wildlife value forever. And yet, less than 15% is protected by law.

Nowhere else in Northern Europe can you find as many large ancient trees and in such remarkable concentrations as in the UK. They help give our countryside a unique character. We all have a special responsibility to protect them and to create new generations of ancient trees for the future.
