Our guide to will-making

Introduction

This section is designed to give a general overview of making, updating or changing a will. There are differences within the UK to be considered when a will is drafted - as there is around the world. (Please consider where you live or have lived in the world, the laws relating to those countries and the laws applicable to the country in which your assets are held.) This could lead to more than one will being required and could mean you cannot do exactly as you wish when making a will. These matters are extremely important and your solicitor will be able to guide you.

  • Making a will is usually very straight forward, but we do urge you to seek independent legal advice.

  • It usually only costs from around £80 to make a will.

  • Difficulties in administering your estate could cost a considerable sum. A valid will reduces the
    likelihood of this happening.

  • DIY wills are not a good idea - far better to visit a solicitor and get professional advice.

  • Save time and money by getting a few facts and figures ready before you see the solicitor, by following this simple guide.
