Barbara Midgley has the same passion for trees and wildlife as we do. Her letter pledging to leave a gift in her will to the Woodland Trust was so interesting that we wanted to meet her.
For 25 years Barbara taught at Stamford High School in Lincolnshire, becoming head of classics and in charge of external exams. She has also compiled thousands of puzzles over more than 30 years for UK and US outlets.
Her expertise in classical and medieval horticulture appears in Anthony Huxley's book 'An Illustrated History of Gardening', and she also wrote and illustrated a book on wild flowers in the 'How and Why Wonder Book' series.
Barbara has left the Trust an unrestricted gift in her will so it can be used wherever the need is greatest - though she hopes it will be many years before we receive it.
She explains: "...the Woodland Trust was the natural place for me to leave a legacy in my will. I passionately believe that pledging a legacy to support the work of the Trust helps everyone in some aspect of their lives. Trees need us as much as we need trees."
