Northern England - Miltonrigg Wood

Size:  156.6 acres (63.36 ha)
Near:  Brampton, Cumbria

Miltonrigg Wood near Brampton in Cumbria is a complex and diverse site. Once native broadleaf, it provides a habitat for a plethora of wildlife including red squirrel, roe deer, kestrel, sparrow hawk, great spotted woodpecker, redstart, and coaltit, and it's popular with visitors.
It is now largely planted with non-native conifers but with the help of several gifts in wills, the Woodland Trust aims ultimately to return the woodland to mainly native trees to encourage an even richer diversity of plants and animals.
