Q - I would like to leave a legacy to the Woodland Trust but I would prefer it to be used to buy woodland in my home county. Can you please tell me if this type of gift would be of interest to the Trust?
- We are always extremely grateful to be remembered in anyway.
- Your will is your one way of ensuring that your wishes count but we do ask that conditions are considered very carefully. If we can’t comply – for example, years in the future buying land in a very restricted geographical area may not be possible – regretfully the Trust may not be able to benefit from your generous gift at all.
- You may like to consider including a reference in your will that if the Trust cannot reasonably comply with the restriction then the legacy could be applied to a project that most closely follows your conditions and the Trust would liaise with your Executors to gain approval of the use of the legacy. You may like to provide a side letter to your will letting us have your thoughts and wishes on how you would prefer your legacy to be used if possible. The Woodland Trust will then be able to follow your wishes by considering the options available at the appropriate time. If the legacy is condition free the Woodland Trust will be able to use it in the best way to support our conservation priorities at the time of your death.
